Be REAL Healthy

I’m passionate about health and wellness. I have found keeping my body and mind healthy allows me to better serve those within my realm of influence.

While I understand not everyone is interested in lifting heavy weights and performing gymnastic moves in a CrossFit class, I believe there are healthy choices for everyone to feel and perform their best.

The BEST version of the REAL YOU! That is the goal!

This Health and Wellness page is designed to provide choices, solutions, strategies, and motivation to become the best version of ourselves.

*It is still a work in progress but eventually you will find many resources to be a REAL healthy YOU!

Powerful ways to tap into learners at a deep level.

Tara is a master of the use of metaphor- Creating space for the reader to fill in the gaps, make connections and create patterns. As a fellow neuroscience nerd, 40+ year educators and author I found the book pulling me into the story of her journey as an educator while, providing ways to build strong relationships with learners. As a sketchnoter the images she creates were powerful – “The entire scene was a junkyard of lousy decisions stacked one upon another.” As I read, I was reminded of Parker Palmer’s book The Courage to Teach. Kudos Tara for a soulful message wrapped up in good writing.

Be REAL– A Must Real for School Leaders

Just finished “Be Real” by @TaraMartinEDU. It was wonderful & sure to pull at every heartstring while inspiring you to be a champion for kids & the team you lead. If you lead a school, it’s a must-read. Cannonball in and add this to your collection.

The REAL Deal

Tara inspires, encourages, and leads the way in innovative, heartfelt education. This book, Be REAL, came at just the right time to remind me to embrace my own quirks and weirdness, to continue to be salt and light, and stop worrying about the critics on the side lines. I highly recommend Tara Martin’s Be REAL: Educate from the Heart.

Be REAL Review

I finished Be REAL yesterday! I have not read a book that quickly in a long time. Since I follow Tara Martin on Twitter and I have a lotof the same theories on kids and teaching there were a lot of places that I was saying “Amen”. There were a couple places where I would think “she is at an elementary, I can edit that for high school”. It did a lot to rejuvenate me and remind me that I do a lot right by my kids.

Be REAL

Reading your book was just the refreshing reflection I needed to begin year 24 as an educator. The words in your book have a daily impact upon both myself and my students. My classroom community is glorious this year. We spend at least 10 minutes every morning sitting in a large circle talking about how we feel and what is going on in our lives. I’ve seen more empathy between students this year than I have in years. My second graders do BookSnaps regularly in their SeeSaw journals. Their reading reflections are growing in depth and understanding with each passing week. Thank you Tara for breathing new life into my teaching.

Tara in REAL life

I saw you at CUE last year. You are so full of life and inspiration. I loved listening to you. Trying to share #BookSnaps with our teachers, but they are reluctant. I will need to figure out the best way to reach them. Anyway… would I be able to get one of your Be REAL: Educate from the Heart stickers? Thanks for inspiring so many!

Tara, I just finished Be Real: Educate from the Heart and don’t have the words for how impactful this book was. Who knew that winning a DBC challenge on Twitter would lead me to reading a book that would touch my heart and soul, not only as an educator but as a person as well. As a school counselor I have long known the impact that real relationships can have on students, teachers and parents but never have I read something that so beautifully described that impact than when I read your book. Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge and experiences with the world- you can add me to the long list of people who have been positively impacted by your spirit and heart.
