The students OWNED the #BookSnapsWk2 Challenge! In fact, we had so many entries, we have two sets of Student Guest Blogger winners. We had over 550 tweets made to the hashtag and some of these contained Padlet links of 20+ #BookSnaps each! I didn’t know how the #BookSnaps could get any more creative after week one, yet the students blew my mind once again! Check out the hashtag #BookSnapsWk2 or view our Storify presentation below.
In fact, they were so amazing the judges chose nine winners to participate in two guest blog posts this week–one on Wednesday morning and one today. Today’s post features the second half of our #BookSnapsWk2 winners.
Jennifer Ledford’s class and Brook Sulzmann’s class won the GHO Visit! I had so much fun learning from the students and sharing a little bit about me and my #BookSnaps adventure. See images below.
Now, for that which we have all been waiting…
Please, welcome the second set of #BookSnapsWk2 student winners–my guest bloggers! These students are from the US & Canada; yes, our challenge is now international! I’m honored to have you all writing with me and sharing your authentic connections to the text using #BookSnaps.
Penguins! By Anne Schreiber
For our assignment, we learned about facts and opinions and had to find a book and create a booksnap about a fact in that book. I picked penguins because I think they are cute and I don’t know that much about them. I learned that penguins can swim about 15 miles an hour and the way the parents fine their chicks is the chicks sing special songs. I like doing #BookSnaps because it was more challenging than other things we have done.

The book Number the Stars by Lois Lowry was intriguing in so many ways because of the interesting time period. My favorite part of the book was at the very end when a family that helped Jews escape were proud for what they had done and knew who they had helped were safe because World War II was over. This book made me feel confident and I now have complete confidence that even the scariest risks anyone can take will always have something positive piggybacked to them.

Hello, readers! My name is Samuel. I am a fourth grader at Garfield Elementary in Collingswood, New Jersey in America. My classroom is called Camp Yet because we believe in the Power of Yet. My book snap was about the fifth book of the Harry Potter series, The Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling. So far the weirdest character is a girl named Luna Lovegood. When I mean weirdest, I mean a girl that wears pineapple earrings. Isn’t that crazy, I mean when have you seen anybody wearing pineapple earrings? Even though she’s weird, she is special because only herself and Harry Potter can see a type of monster.
I like #BookSnaps because it’s nice to comment about your book and tell someone else. A BookSnap is like a book club with the world. You should give #BookSnaps try! You will be surprised at how fun it can be!
l am reading the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. My favorite part of the story was when Karana got her new dog Rontu, Fox Eyes. There was a big storm coming and Karana and her village people had to leave the Island. Her brother forgot his fishing spear, and she jumped out to save him and got left behind. The saddest `part of the book was when Rontu died. He went to the cave to die alone, but Karna found him. I have enjoyed reading Island of the Blue Dolphins! I love creating #BookSnaps!
