The students OWNED the #BookSnaps2018 Challenge! We had over 700 tweets made to the hashtag and some of these contained Google Slides links of 20+ #BookSnaps each! I didn’t know how the #BookSnaps Challenge could get any more creative after last year, yet the students blew my mind once again! Check out the hashtag #BookSnaps2018.
Now, for that which we have all been waiting…
Please, welcome the #BookSnaps2018 student guest bloggers! These students are from the United States & Hong Kong; yes, our challenge is international! I’m honored to have you all writing with me and sharing your authentic connections to the text using #BookSnaps.
Mykenzee and I read Click Clack Moo by Doreen Cronin, with our kindergarten buddy, Jude. The story has a good problem and solution. The main problem was that the cows typed and they wanted electric blankets, but the farmer didn’t want to give them what they wanted. We asked Jude to tell us the settings. He said the farm, the barn, and the duck lake. We asked Jude the solution too. HE ROCKED IT and said the cows traded the typewriter for electric blankets. It was a win-win! We all loved the book so much we will totally read it again if we get a chance! We enjoy doing #Booksnaps because it is really fun and it’s a good way to show your thinking about books or poems or whatever you read!😉

This week, I read the book Battle for the Nether by Mark Cheverton, and I created Booksnaps for the book, and these snaps won me the golden ticket to write for this website. This book was rather ridiculous, a kid gets sucked into Minecraft, but the craziness and the self-awareness just makes it perfect for anybody that likes video games. Also, I personally really like creating Booksnaps. While I am not a very ‘trendy’ kid, I realize that #booksnaps create a link for kids between reading, social media, and visual thoughts. Ultimately, I enjoyed making Booksnaps, as slide design is my strong suit, and my book suited my interests of wacky humor.

My book is Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes by @camphalfblood. I recommend this book because Percy puts his own thoughts in and adds jokes about the myth. It makes me laugh because I never thought of those things. He questions how people thought of such weird stories. Percy has more adventures in the series about his daily life as a modern demigod. A demigod is a half-god/half-mortal. Demigods easily attract monsters so stay safe when you are near one! If you want to read the series, reading them in order is better because the writer mentions the previous characters repeatedly. The first book is Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Percy finds out he is a demigod and has to retrieve the lightning bolt for Zeus

In the book (Mrs. Patty is Batty by @DanGutmanBooks) the characters A.J., Ryan and Michael are scared of the Halloween Monster. This connects to my experiences. I feel the same as them every time I walk past a cemetery or spooky Halloween decorations, I get nightmares from the monster images. I recommend this book to younger students because the author is telling a story about an elementary school kid’s life. Also, the book is hilarious. Actually, there are many more books in the series too, like Mrs. Cooney is Loony and Ms. LaGrange is Strange, but they are not sequels as they are all unrelated short stories about different teachers.
