Live Your Legacy

“Legacy is not what you leave when you die.

It’s what people say about you when you leave the room.”

– Bertice Berry

Such a profound reminder.

Every day,

Every moment,

Every word,

Every action,

Every reaction,

Every habit,

Every interaction…

Everything we do is shaping our legacy.

Please don’t get me wrong–I know we can’t hope to please people. It’s impossible. And, there will always be naysayers who talk ugly of you no matter what you do. But, there is a lot of power in this quote, especially for us as leaders of learners.

What do those within our realm of influence say about us when we leave the room?

  • Do they feel heard?
  • Do they feel valued?
  • Do they feel like you’re being honest and real with them?
  • Do they feel uplifted by your energy or drained?
  • Do they feel confused, cheated, or manipulated?
  • Do they defend you when others speak untruths?
  • Do they think you have their best interest in mind?
  • Do they respect you?
  • Do they trust you?

We will never see the legacy we leave after we die.

So…

Be intentional, and

Live Your Legacy–day in and day out.
